Pastries on shelves
Stohrer

With row after row of savory and sweets shops in Paris, are you to try each one or would you go back to your favorite shop every time?

Trying out some of the best pastries in Paris, we've decided to go for one that is traditional with loads of history, Stohrer. We also hiked Montmarte to try one that is modern and popular amongst young creatives, Boris Lume.

What better way to soak up history than to taste old world recipes? The famous Baba au Rhum original is a creation of Nicolas Stohrer. He founded the institution in rue Montorgueil in 1730. A pastry chef to the King of Poland, then King Louis XV, Stohrer came up with decadent pastries we now get to enjoy.

History romance aside, the pastries taste as old as time. The Baba au Rhum has some serious flavor tones from the liquor, and is not advisable for kids. The baba perfectly soaks up the rhum without being mushy. The macaron is delicate and the best ones we've had. We just needed to have one each flavor! Another classic is the Gateau Saint Honoré which reminds us of how a choux should be, and that caramelised sugar is ever so kiddie you'd want a whole cake to yourself!

Grab a few pastries before heading down to Chateau de Versailles for more French history and bask in all its grandeur.

Boris Lume has become popluar with illustrators making their own rendition of the pastry shop facade. The shop is out of the way of most touristy spots in Paris. If you're on a walking tour in Montmarte and Sacre Couer, drop by. We were surprised on how satiating each bread is. Look for the matcha bun with the red bean paste, it is so good.  They also have Matcha Cream Puffs. The next time you're in Montmarte, drop by to pick up a few good bites. Catch you breathe here.
